Ruth Euster Berger o/c "Mexican Market". A large graphic work of five female figures carrying earthenware vessels on their heads, likely painted after one of Berger's trips to Mexico in the 50s and 60s, executed in an abstract style with a very dry, scrumbled paint surface. Ruth Berger (1915-1994) was a Philadelphia artist, trained at the University of Delaware. Her work is included in a number of museum collections, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Woodmere Art Museum. Signed lower right. Mid-20th c. Size: frame is 49" X 41". CONDITION: Some minor surface losses, mostly in the bottom center. Old repair in the left center, which is not visible from the front (probably done by the artist herself).
