Queen Victoria's lap top with gilt stamped metal fan-shaped mirror on front lid covered in gold and orange pressed chiffon, clasp on top with adjustable handle, overall measurements: 11 1/2" x 11"h, inside label, patented July 23, 1895, other patents pending, filed with Her Majesty the Queen's Patent Office as "The Victorian Lap-Desk, interior contains, gold filled letter box, stamp holder, address bar and ink bottle. By tradition, the desk was presented to Queen Victoria upon her 60th birthday celebration (1897), after her death it was presented to Queen Mary, then later Edward VIII who presented it to his wife Wallis Warfield Simpson. CONDITION: Light color fading in fabric cover, inside cloth tearing some surface tarnishing.
