A collection of five Art Nouveau and Art Deco beaded purses, first quarter twentieth century. Comprised of: a) a brown, red, and gold dominant purse with a tortoise style frame, 6.875 x 8.25; b) a blue purse with a medium brown frame, 6.5 x 8; c) an impressive dark blue purse with orange flower motif and a heavily grained frame with kiss clasp and chain handle, 7 x 10; d) a rounded multicolor purse with a green garland surrounded a hatched lozenge, with a translucent frame and chain, 6.25 x 6.75; and e) an unusual Scottish Arts and Crafts style open fringed purse with beaded handle, 7.25 x 8.25. All measurements approximate and do not include fringe or hardware except the frames; hardware may consist of either animal shell or early resins; a mix of lined and unlined interiors, condition varies.
- Condition: Generally very good with condition issues common to bags of such age and construction. These include (letters corresponding to description): a) zones of beading loss, missing closure knob, corroded latch; b) corroded hardware, frame broken in several places with losses and extremely fragile, minor bead loss; c) excellent condition, no apparent defects; d) stray fibers and very small zones of bead loss; and e) stray fibers, minor bead loss.
