Charles Pratt Rachel Carson's Woods Maine Gelatin Silver Photograph. A vintage gelatin-silver photograph by Charles Pratt (1926-1976), captioned "Path through Rachel Carson's woods, Southport, Maine '63" on reverse, showing a fern-filled glad in a pine woods. Purchased from the Cober Gallery, New York. Signed on reverse. Recent framing, with scan of reverse of print attached. Pratt was a member of the illustrious Pratt family who founded the Pratt Institute. Educated at Yale, he worked in the theater before becoming a professional photographer in 1960, documenting everyday life in New York City. He eventually became interested in nature photography, which eventualy led to colaboration with Rachel Carson, illustrating two of her books. He is well-reprsented in institutional collections, but his original prints rarely, if ever, appear on the market. Size: sight is 12.75" X 10", frame is 19.75" X 17.125". CONDITION: Apparently fine, not examined out of frame.
